Jean and I (Rob) love sharing Cape Cod. We have owned the Hibiscus House for 38 years Its easy to take the place you live for granted, so we have made it a point to walk to the beach almost every day, reminding ourselves to appreciate Cape Cod’s natural beauty. One of our rituals is to celebrate the New Year by walking a different beach. Some years it has been so cold that we have had to have double layers on and every inch of skin covered up, and one year it was springlike and balmy. You never know on Cape Cod.
We chose the neighborhood we live in for its community feel, and the local beach at the end of the street on beautiful Lewis Bay. In the Summer, its a really happy atmosphere – well people are on vacation and our neighborhood is very popular and it just makes your feel like your are among friends. The Fourth of July is particularly nice, as the fireworks can be seen from the beach. Every Fourth of July, we have a neighbor who sponsors if that’s the word a Fourth of July Parade-kids on bikes, sometimes a police car and frankly its just a little parade/walk and afterward everyone or anyone is invited into the back yard for watermelon. Its like a scene out of a Norman Rockwell painting. The adults in the parade marched in it as kids, that’s how long this has been going on, and I don’t want to oversell it-its a hokey little parade, and guaranteed to be 100% fun. Then neighbor who started it is in her 80’s (her husband passed away) so who knows how long this will continue. It will be a sad day when it comes to an end. But for now its something that we love about our neighborhood.
We are animal lovers, and regular volunteers at Taylor Bray Farm in Yarmouthport, which is owned in part by the Town of Yarmouth.
In 2016 Jean and I took part in changing the town’s bylaws so that dogs would be allowed on Yarmouth’s Beaches in the off-season.
We are grateful to live here and work hard to provide you with an enjoyable vacation adventure.
